Advancing globalization and an increased demand for individualized products cause a raise in market segmentation (Beyer et al. 2012). The automotive market is affected by the trend of micro segmentation and increased product variants. Due to customer demands, the models and derivatives within the vehicle fleets of the OEMs have been growing continuously over the past years. Audi AG for example increased its model number from 20 in 2005 to 42 in 2015 (Audi 2012). Based on these models, the customer can choose from a large number of derivatives. The resulting decrease of product lifetimes requires new ways and technology solutions for a customer specific small series production. At the same time, the worldwide increase of urbanization is challenging the traffic systems and increasing the CO2-Emissions in urban regions (Spath 2010: 12-13; Heymann/Zähres 2009). Hence, legal regulations for emissions of new automobiles will favour the dissemination of E-mobility (Müller et al. 2011). The increasing electrification and micro segmentation of the automotive market will require customer specific electro mobility in urban regions. The Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components is developing solutions for this future challenge.
